FIREWORKS SAFETY TIPS

Saturday, June 27, 2009
-
For Americans, Fourth of July celebrations usually signify summer fun, vacations, and the gathering of family and friends, but Independence Day can also bring tragedy. In a typical year, more U.S. fires are reported on July 4 than on any other day and fireworks account for half of those fires. Sparklers, firecrackers, and rockets are the leading contributors to these injuries.
Did You Know?

The tip of a sparkler burns at a temperature of more than 1,200 degrees – this is hot enough to cause third degree burns.
Over 90% of fireworks injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms involve fireworks that Federal regulations permit consumers to use.
Because most fireworks injuries are preventable, everyone can enjoy a safe and happy holiday by following a few fireworks safety tips.

All,

I just became aware of this yesterday. The city is trying to reduce our retirement health coverage, to fund vesting carpet baggers into our retirement system. I have attached both bills for your reading. Call the union hall and say not to B18-0031!!! There is strength in numbers! I have already been in touch with Union leadership. This only affects members hired after Sept 30, 1987. The savings to the city will be huge!!!!

Pass this on to as many members as you can, get involved! It seems trivial now but it adds up in retirement.

Every year at this time, members of the DCFD step up and make their donation to the H.E.R.O.E.S. Foundation.  Money is being collected now through early June - See your company officer to make a donation.

What is H.E.R.O.E.S.?

They are a non-profit organization that supports the families of fallen firefighters and police officers of the Washington Metropolitan Area.  They ask for no recognition for what they do and prefer to stay out of the camera's eye.  They are what can be best described as "Firemans' Heroes!"

See their website for further details or contact any company officer for questions.
